Hamilton Contract Economics Modeling
IFRS 16
Lease Accounting
IFRS 16 requires lessees to recognize assets and liabilities arising from leases, bringing most lease obligations onto the balance sheet. Hamilton's Contract Economics Modeling translates lease terms, payments and options into dynamic right-of-use asset and lease liability measurement.

Overview
From Lease Contracts to Dynamic Balance Sheet Outcomes
IFRS 16 requires lessees to recognize assets and liabilities arising from leases. Lease accounting is a lifecycle modelling problem — lease terms, payment schedules, discount rates, renewal and termination options, index changes, modifications, impairments, accruals and settlements must be translated into dynamic outcomes.
At commencement, the engine establishes lease term, fixed and variable payments, incentives, initial direct costs, discount-rate assumptions, currency and ledger context, right-of-use asset value and lease liability. For lessors, it supports classification of arrangements and governs lease income, receivables, residual exposure and disclosure obligations.
Because lease portfolios are operationally volatile, contract creation, reassessment, modification, index-linked payment updates, renewal decisions and early termination are captured as governed events with a traceable link back to the contract and the accounting rule set.
From Lease Events to Accounting Outcomes
Measurement & Scheduling
Calculates present-value lease liabilities, right-of-use asset values, interest accretion, depreciation or amortisation, payment schedules, accruals and portfolio-level movements.
- Present-value lease liability calculation
- ROU asset & depreciation scheduling
- Portfolio-level movement tracking
Remeasurement & Modification
Refreshes balances when terms, payments, discount assumptions, scope or timing change, including partial derecognition where modifications reduce the leased asset or obligation.
- Term & payment change handling
- Discount-rate remeasurement
- Partial derecognition on modification
Predictive Accounting
Projects future statement of financial position and profit-or-loss effects before final postings, supporting management insight into asset, debt, expense and cash-flow impacts.
- Forward-looking balance sheet & P&L views
- Asset, debt & expense projection
- Cash-flow impact insight
Sub-Ledger & Reporting Flow
Prepares traceable lease accounting records and journal-ready posting streams for the general ledger, reconciliation, management reporting and compliance disclosures.
- Traceable lease accounting records
- GL-ready posting streams
- Compliance disclosure outputs
